Chedi Thaimongkhon 白钢塔 เจดีย์
Stainless Steel Pagoda - was made from all stainless steel tubing and is lit up at night turning it into a Crystal Pagoda which is visible from the road below the hill. Concealed in small ceramic and glass vases are bone fragments of monks, placed at the lower center pillar which is the main center pillar that holds the entire circular stainless steel tubing of the 2 storey pagoda. Around the exterior wall are 16 circular doors into cubicle where various shrines are located. There are "Monthly" & "7 Days" Wishing Bowls to made your wishes at the upper level. On top of the hill, stoods Phra Cinaraj, Bodhisattva Kuan Yin, Sukhothai & other shrines. This temple is famous for obtaining blessing and purifying the soul by way of taking a bath with the holy water. Do walk 3 times around the pagoda for good luck.

The 20 metres high white jade statue of Kuan Yin, Goddess of Compassion & Mercy is located on top of a hill at Hat Yai Municipal Park. A huge Dragon mouth's entrance make a warm welcoming to the temple. There are hundreds miniatures of Kuan Yin's statues in main pavilion together with Eight Immortals's statues & other Deities. At that hilltop, there is a huge statue of Kuan Gong, Jade Emperor, the fat laughing buddha ~ "Budai" and Kuan Yin's statues with the 12 Zodiac Animals. Besides that there is a newly build cable car connected between hills. It is about 1000 steps to the hilltop where there is 360 degree panoramic view of Hat Yai City and Songkhla.

A number of miniatures elephants of various sizes donated by devotees are placed around the temple with a Three Headed Elephant statue "Airavata`` at mid hill. A firecracker housing located on hilltop for devotees to light firecrackers for good luck. A cable car links this hill to another hill where the Standing Buddha is located. From the view at the hilltop you can see virtually the entire Hatyai City and Songkhla.

Klonghae Floating Market 古龍蝦水上市場 ตลาดน้ำคลองแห
This market is located about 4 kilometers from the town of Hat Yai where vendors sell foods from permanently moored boats loaded with Thai dishes, tropical fruit and vegetables, fresh, ready-to-drink coconut juice and local food cooked from floating kitchens located right on the small boat.There is no entrance fee, the food is good, all the food mostly cost Bt20 per portion. There is no dual-pricing system in place. The vendors use little baskets at end of bamboo sticks to pass food and to receive money from customers. There are large boats that give visitors a ride around the canal for Bt20/pax.
Open from Friday to Sunday - 3pm till 9pm

Hatyai Municipal Park 合艾市公园 สวนสาธารณะเทศบาลเมืองหาดใหญ่
Hat Yai Municipal Park is 6 km from the city centre on the Hat Yai-Songkhla highway. It is the major recreation as the park is full of beautiful flowering plants, a pavilion in the middle of the pond, avarium and food stalls. At the foot of the hill near the avarium stands the statue of King Rama V.
Activities: paddling in the lake, hiking & jogging, feeding fishes, taste some local foods, rest or picnic. To enjoy this and to see all the sites in this park, you will need about half a day here, thus it was for some photo-taking of some sites before proceeding to the nearby hilltop temples.

Reclining Buddha 'Phra Phuttha Hattha Mongkhon'
Wat Hat Yai Nai is located on Phetkasem Road, near Khlong U Taphao Bridge, the monastery is where Phra Phuttha Hattha Mongkhon, a large reclining Buddha measuring 35 meters long, 15 meters tall, and 10 meters wide, is enshrined. Highly revered by both Thai and foreign tourists, the image is believed to be the third largest reclining Buddha in the world. The Buddha was added to the temple in 1972. Underneath the Reclining Buddha is a mausoleum. This consists of a room with lots of lockers around the walls in which are interred the remains of deceased people.The temple has the full range of facilities: crematorium, memorials, monks in residence, and schools.

Wat Thaawon / Mahapanya Vidayalai มหาปัญญาวิทยาลัย
Wat Thaawon, in my opinion, is the most photogenic Wat in Hat Yai. It's a Vietnamese Mahayana Buddhist temple and therefore the Buddha images and other imagery are different from Thai Theravada Buddhist temples. The giant statue of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha in temple premises which is in total 33 feet tall, the staff is 42 meters tall while the lap is 12 meters wide. The most recent addition is a Chinese style pagoda that costs Bt100 million to build. There are many other shrines, a nine storey 'Peace' Pagoda and a Chinese cemetery where a total 0f 224 statues of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha are mainly built for storing bones and ashes left after cremation of a dead person.
The temple is located next to the Tesco Lotus shopping centre in the vicinity of the Prince of Songkhla university and hospital. Open everyday except Monday, Tuesday and public holidays during 1.00 – 4.00 p.m.

Watch the ice carved animals, castles & variety flora. Entrance fee of 300 bahts/adult & 200 bahts/children inclusive rental free of winter jacket and gloves.
Operating day varies every year, however it is between end of year to next third quarter of the years. Operating time: 1000 hrs to 2200 hrs.

Samila Beach - Golden Mermaid 沙米拉海滩 [宋卡] 金色美人鱼 หาดสมิหลา

From Samila Beach one can see Laem Son Onn to the northeast and Chalathas Beach to the south. East of this beach is Ko Nu and Ko Maew (Mouse and Cat island). On a clear day, Kao Seng Hill can be seen further to the south. The major landmark of the beach is the Golden Mermaid statue, a prominent symbol of Songkhla. Many facilities such as sidewalks, pavilions have been added to enhance this place as the main attraction of Songkhla.

At the hilltop is the famous Sala Vihan Daeng, the Royal Pavilion built during the reign of King Rama V and a Dvaravati Chedi housing the Lord Buddha's relics that was built during the Nakhon Si Thammarat Empire. A ride on a cable tram of 170m length takes less than 3 minutes to arrive at the top of the hill (30 bahts/person) . Atop the hill stands a few shrines with a sweeping panoramic view of the city and Songkhla Lake. At the foot of the hill is the Monkey's Fun Park.

is a sculpture in three parts, with the head being situated 3km apart from its tail near Samila Beach. Naga is the deity of water as well as fertility, and was built to bring good fortune to the city of Songkhla. The head, found at the tip of the Songkhla peninsula facing the port, jets water out into the bay, which symbolizes the intelligence and wisdom of Songkhla’s inhabitants. The middle section, the belly or Navel of the serpent, is sited on the front near the road up to Tang Kuan Hill, and symbolizes the city’s riches, whilst the final part, the tail, found alongside Samila beach on Chalatad road, symbolizes the charisma and strength of the people of Songkhla. Mixed - culture among Buddhist-Chinese-Muslim people is located. You can see "Songkhla Mosque", City Pillar Shire, and Thai Temple, many old houses and building are located in this Old Town area. It is one of the wildlife conservation and breeding center for wildlife and covers a hilly area of 911 Rai which houses a variety of domestic and foreign animal & bird species. There are animal showtimes at different intervals and a huge water park in the zoo. On the hilltop, there is a restaurant offering great dining with an ideal bird's eye view spot for admiring the scenic beauty of Songkhla.

Located in the Ton Nga Chang Wildlife Sanctuary, about 26 kilometers from the city, this 7-tiered waterfall is one of the beautiful waterfalls of the south. The waterfall offers scenic views, and of all the seven cascades, the third one is the most beautiful, with the water falling into two large streams resembling an elephant's tusks (Tone Nga Chang means "waterfalls like an elephant's tusks" as how its name is derived ). The waterfall consists of seven tiers, all individually named (Tone Ba, Tone Plew, Tone Nga Chang, Tone Dum, Tone Nam Proy, Tone Rue Sri Koy Bo, Tone Met Choon).
Signboard gives an indication as to the distance to the various falls and the star attraction is this 2nd fall which is a short hike from the corner of the park serving food. The area is also ideal for trekking and enjoying unspoiled nature.

Wat Pah Koh Suwanaram
Archan Thong [Luang Phor Thong] 阿占通 [銮菩通] วัดป่าเกาะ
This temple is famous for housing the remain of the late abbot of the Wat, Luang Phor Thong-Susangwaro Thong (Archan Tong), whose physical body is kept in a glassed closed coffin and it said that his hair and nail are still growing although the body is dead and shows no sign of decay after passing away since the year 2000, at the age of 93.
Luang Phor Thong passed away at 93 on 21st November 2000 (BE 2543) at 12.08 pm, having served as the very first Abbot of Wat Pah Koh for over half a century.

Archan Thong [Luang Phor Thong] 阿占通 [銮菩通] วัดป่าเกาะ
This temple is famous for housing the remain of the late abbot of the Wat, Luang Phor Thong-Susangwaro Thong (Archan Tong), whose physical body is kept in a glassed closed coffin and it said that his hair and nail are still growing although the body is dead and shows no sign of decay after passing away since the year 2000, at the age of 93.
Luang Phor Thong passed away at 93 on 21st November 2000 (BE 2543) at 12.08 pm, having served as the very first Abbot of Wat Pah Koh for over half a century.

Bottle Temple ~ Wat Khuat or Khok Sak Meditation Center 瓶寺 วัดขวด (ขวดวัด)
Wat Khuat or Khok Sak Meditation Center was constructed in 1993 from donated used bottles of various colours; it comprises an Ubosot (ordination hall) and a Rong Tham (preaching hall).
It is an almost 30 kilometers from Hatyai City downtown in municipality of Chana, province of Natthawi. The temple and outhouses - toilets and monk's quarters - have been built normally and then an outer layer of bottles has been cemented in place. The bottles are all very uniformly positioned and there is a big pond at the back where they breed catfish.
The main temple building is a little run down and the rest of the temple grounds are neglected and not particularly attractive which was not a worthwhile journey there for exploration.

The Hatyai Lantern Festival 合艾灯笼节 เทศกาลโคมไฟหาดใหญ่
also known as ‘colours of the south’ is one of the most colourful festivals sees a multitude of lanterns of all colours, shapes and sizes lighting the streets at dusk. As from 2013, artists and workmen from Harbin, China arrive Thailand to lend their expertise. creating a themes to revolve around animals, fairy tales and the zodiac.
The festival was held at the Hat Yai Municipal and it's free to all, even for foreigners, which is most unusual in Thailand and well worth visiting. It was open on near year end and ran until April of every year. Operating day varies every year.

Songkran, traditionally the Thai New Year on 13th April, whereby the Thais bathe Buddha images and gently wash the hands of older people. Songkran in Hat Yai lasts for three day starting from 12th to 14th April whereas in Northern Thailand it goes on for a week.
When you are outside, you will get doused with bucket loads of water or sprayed
with water guns and face powdered with white powder for good luck. The water-splashing and beauty pageants that feature at every Songkran Festival are as much part of the fun in Songkhla as all over Thailand. The city's Hat Yai Midnight Songkran Festival also has a fire show and other late-night fun.

Loy Krathong and Yi Peng @ Hatyai 合艾水灯节 ลอยกระทงหาดใหญ่
Loy Krathong is an annual lantern festival in Thailand where people visit a place of water to take part in a small candle-lit ceremony. Many Thai consider the Krathong to be a good luck charm for the start of the new year. Little Krathongs (small floating offerings) made out of the banana leaves with variety of flowers, a single candle and three incense sticks is lit and release to be floated down a river as a way to pay honor and extends thanks to 'Phra Mae Khongkha' - the Thai water god.
Yi Peng is a time for paying respect to Buddha and sending away worries and asking for good fortune for the year. The 'Khom Fai' also known as the 'Khom Loy' (Sky lanterns) is a cylindrical paper lantern that is braced with circular wire rims for stability. It is often celebrated by releasing lit Khom Fai (Sky lanterns) into the sky.
The two festivals fall at the same time and are celebrated in similar ways with similar meaning (November of every year).

Hat Yai is a very Chinese dominated town, the Chinese vegetarian festival celebrated once a year is quite a big event. It lasts for nine days and falls in late September or early October. The exact date varies from year to year as it is based on the lunar calendar. The Hindu Thaipusam festival it is quite similar but without the metal cages that the Hindus carry on their shoulders. The devotees at the vegetarian festival put objects such as bicycles and garden strimmers through their cheeks before joining a large procession to central Hat Yai.
The big day is the middle Saturday of the festival where there is a lot of activity around the junction of Supasarnrangsan Road and Saeng Sri Road.
On this day free food is given out. 109 large woks of noodles and rice are lined up along Supasarnrangsan Road and you can eat as
much as you like.
